ARE YOU JUST A SUNDAY MORNING CHRISTIAN?

November 14, 2013

You’re a Sunday morning Christian sir singing louder than the rest
Beg forgiveness at the altar with your chin down on your chest
But tomorrow will be Monday you’ll revert back to your ways
Gougin’ kickin’ cheatin’ shovin’ with no thoughts of God or lovin’
Don’t let me stand in your way surely God will forgive you next Sunday”

Something that disturbs me, and should disturb you if you are a true believer, is that over 80 % of Americans would claim to believe in God, and be religious, and even attend church on Sunday. Tragically, a large proportion of these are merely Sunday morning Christians.

In other words the transforming power of the gospel means nothing to them. For them church is like a social club, were you pay your dues, attend once a week, return home, change your Sunday clothes, and then pretty much do as you please, until next Sunday.

Here are some important questions to ask yourself:

How are you different from the non Christians around you?

Do people around you know that you are a Christian, and when you became one?

Are you obsessed with sports trivia, teams, and heroes, fantasy literature and movies, and know more about them than you know about bible heroes, chapters and verses?

Is Jesus, or your relationship with him ever discussed at family gatherings?

Perhaps the final question that will reveal your spiritual status is: Is your church attendance just like a flu shot that keeps you from getting the real thing.

What I mean is: Is your Sunday attendance just enough to keep you from the getting the real thing. That is, is it keeping you from being truly saved, converted, born again, and having a transformed life, consisting of a daily relationship with our Lord and Savior?
